    Lantaka: A homemade firework?

Recently some male adults were playing of a one-of-a-kind homemade firework which was developed by an unknown source, which begun to hit in our town. The materials can be easily found at home some can be bought at the hardware stores. Every now and then, a bang sound can be heard over the town, some are strong others are not. Because of my curiousity of the said home-made firework, I begun to research about it.

    dp - home-made filipino cannon-lantaka, ca. early 1900 by SPARTAN-SPARTAN.

Lantaka were the bronze cannon mounted on merchant vessels travelling the waterways of Malaysia and Indonesia. The guns were used to defend against pirates demanding tribute for the local chief, or potentate.

    -Wikipedia.com

As you can see, lantaka in the first place – seen to be dangerous and was used for defending firearms against pirates by the merchants. But here in our town, the term was used for a homemade and safe-to-use firework best fitted with todays holidays! It may sound terrible because of its cannon-like look but it was guaranteed safe.

The material used to build with the said homemade firework were the ff:

    1. Body (desired material can be use)
      • Bamboo trunk
      • Aluminum cans
      • PVC pipe
    2. Lighter (Cricket-styled)
    3. Denatured Alcohol (used product: Flying Tiger [Manufactured & Repacked by: Treasure Island Industrial Corporation, Mandaue, City, Cebu, Phils.]) CLICK HERE FOR MORE PRODUCT DETAILS
CAUTION ABOUT THIS PRODUCT:  Poison, Flammable, Keep container closed when not in use
    4. Masking Tape / Rubber (used for enclosing the body [suggest for using cans)
    5. Plastic Bottle with cap (must be durable enough to keep in pressure)
    6. Glue sticks (used for making holes)

    To be continued…

New Moon Soundtrack RD: October 16, 2009

New Moon’s soundtrack comprises songs that are all original and exclusive to the soundtrack and are performed by various indie rock and alternative rock artists. New Moon director Chris Weitz stated that the soundtrack would feature songs from Radiohead, Muse, and Band of Skulls.[15] Death Cab for Cutie contributed the soundtrack’s lead single, a song written specifically for the film called “Meet Me on the Equinox”, which debuted September 13 during the MTV Video Music Awards. Bassist Nick Harmer says, “We wrote ‘Meet Me On the Equinox’ to reflect the celestial themes and motifs that run throughout the Twilight series and we wanted to capture that desperate feeling of endings and beginnings that so strongly affect the main characters.” The music video for “Meet Me on the Equinox” premiered on October 7, 2009 and includes clips from the movie. The English rock band Muse contributed a remix of their song “I Belong to You”, which appears in its original form on their 2009 album The Resistance. St. Vincent collaborated with Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon to create a song called “Rosyln”. When describing the song, she said, “[Justin] sings in his beautiful falsetto and I’m actually singing very, very low… I think there’s something vampirey and creepy about the two of us singing together. It’s a simple, stripped-down kind of song.” The soundtrack originally had a release date of October 20, 2009, but the date was moved up four days to October 16 due to “overwhelming and unprecedented demand”.

    GM win Ayala’s Eco-Art Tilt

GM ROCKS!!! :D Classmate mi Ivan… tiaw mo ana.

Two Graphics and Media students were recognized for their outstanding mixed-media creations during Ayala Center Cebu’s Eco-Art Competition Awarding Ceremony last September 19, 2009 at the Activity Center.

Katrina Garcia was the Grand Prize Winner for her piece dubbed as “Transformer Code: BK2CHR (Bike to Chair)”, while Ivan Anthony Gabales was Honorable Mention for “Lampshade”.

Inspired by the challenge of how to recycle the worn-out components of “trisikads” in the barangay, Garcia’s ‘BK2CHR’ creation ingeniously used scrap materials and junk parts from a bike and transformed them into a chair. The rims and handle bars were welded together, while the back and arm supports were reinforced with used nylons and nylon ropes.

“The result is a durable chair that seats comfortably, combining functionality and aesthetics. I’ve personally sat on it and it can withstand longer periods of sitting,” claims Garcia.

Meanwhile, Gabales’ safari-inspired lampshade was formed out of the accumulated junk from their house. He had wanted to show his mother that there was no need to buy new home accessories as he could recreate their home accents from junked materials.

The “Eco-Art Exhibit: From Junk Springs Art” art exhibit and competition was part of the Greenology Campaign of Ayala Center Cebu. It displayed unique art installations that feature junk art and aimed to educate shoppers on the importance of reducing waste and recycling through art and innovation. Around 20 students from various universities and colleges participated in the competition.

The judges included Brgy Luz Captain Hon. Nida Cabrera, USC-FA professor Mr. Radel Paredes, and CHI Sustainability Officer Mr. Elson Homez.

Garcia, Gabales, and the rest of the winners received cash prizes from Ayala.

    Men’s mismatch closet looks

Can you really blame a guy for wearing his jeans a bit too high on his waist? For grabbing a dress belt that’s not quite a dress belt? For not knowing what the heck collar stays are? Well, no. But we can offer advice that that will prevent him from suffering these flubs again, while guaranteeing better style for life.

Mistake 1: The Schlumpy Leather Jacket

Problem: There’s nothing modern-or even retro-cool-about a leather jacket that fits like a rain poncho.

Solution: When trying on a new leather jacket, keep going down a size until you can’t get it on, then buy the next size up. It should feel snug as a wetsuit but will take your body’s shape over time. The coolest style right now? The bomber you see here.

Jacket, $1,695, by Dolce & Gabbana. Shirt, $375, by Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquiére. Khakis, $48, by Dockers. Shoes, $488, by Brooks Brothers Peal & Co.

Mistake 2: The Barack Obama Jeans

Problem: Whitewashed high-waisted jeans aren’t just dorky—they also emphasize all the wrong parts of your body.

Solution: Medium-rise raw denim jeans sit at the most flatter place (on your hips), follow your legs (instead of saddlebagging out from your waist), and form-fit to you as you break them in. Oh, and while you’re at it, replace the Seinfeld-esque running shoes with some lace-ups or classic sneaks.

Jeans, $90, by Martin + Osa. Sweater, $100, by Uniqlo. Shirt, $40, by H&M. Shoes, $560, by Alden. Watch by IWC.

Mistake 3: The Cheap Printed Tie

Problem: Let’s pretend this tie isn’t a little ugly. And tied too long. It still isn’t working. Why? A cheap thin silk tie gets you an unacceptably tiny knot.

Solution: Go for a sturdier silk tie, which’ll make for a solid knot. Plus, keep any patterns understated. Also, a quick note on length: The tip of your tie should not hang below the waistline of your pants.

Tie, $135, by Ralph Lauren Black Label. Shirt, $360, by Etro. Pants, $280, by Acne. Tie bar by Kenneth Cole.

    Mistake 4: Sagging Suit Pants

Problem: Just bought a cool skinny suit? It ain’t cool if it stacks up at your ankles like baggy jeans.

Solution: Take your suit to a tailor and tell him you don’t want a break. Those are the words you should use: “I want this suit hemmed with little or no break.” Period. Remember: Tailors are used to working with guys who don’t know what they want. Be assertive so he understands that you’re after a specific look and don’t just want “the usual.”

Suit, $1,095, by D&G. Shoes, $395, by Calvin Klein Collection.

    Mistake 5: The Pancake Collar

Problem: When you’re not wearing a tie, the collar on your dress shirt flattens out and sinks beneath the lapels of your jacket. The look? Sloppy.

Solution: First, look for dress shirts with firm collars that stand up on their own., framing your face. Second, use collar stays. You know, those little plastic things. Every proper dress shirt has slots for them.

Shirt, $150, by Thomas Pink. Suit, $1,195, by Emporio Armani.

Mistake 6: Right Suit, Wrong Belt

Problem: You want Tiger Woods’s swing, not his style, especially when wearing a suit. A silver-tipped faux cowboy belt is not a dress belt. If you’ve got one, retire it.

Solution: Invest in a high-quality leather belt that’s an inch to an inch and a half wide. If it smells and feels buttery, that means it’ll age beautifully. And the buckle should be subtle.

Belt, $69, by Club Monaco. Shirt, $370, by Marc Jacobs. Pants, $195, by Boss Black.

    Mistake 7: The Oversize Suit

Problem: You invested in a dark handsome suit, but you look a little…eh in it. Know why? It’s a size too big, and all that extra material is boxing (shoulders), sagging (waist), and flopping (ankles).

Solution: Repeat the leather-jacket method from the opening page. When trying on a suit, keep going down a size in the jacket until it gets uncomfortable. Then go one size up and buy that. And unless you’re over six feet two, buy a regular length, not a long.

Suit, $1,395, and shoes, $395, by Calvin Klein Collection. Shirt, $360, by Etro. Tie, $150, by Black Fleece by Brooks Brothers.

    Personal Computer:Last Nightmare

After sometime, my PC is all done down. I am expecting that all necessary error brings damage to the system. Since the last date of June, I am experiencing some difficulties on my PC. First symptom, an error message on the screen saying about a code that I never know about. My PC routine goes like this: opening music sites then downloading mp3s at Limewire (the site that made my PC goes slow due to virus e.i trojan horse). Truly, I am addicted to pop music that even commercial songs I downloaded with effort and time. The consequence began, my PC is out of control! I can no longer access the entire system because my secondary slave disk had been crash and all files were gone.

Seeing all I have save for the last years event like anniversaries, parties , and special days were all missed and gone. But thanks to Friendster, some of my memorable pictures had been saved and secured. Seeing all my effort and the files that I have saved all up were gone… is like a trash bin eating all up and nothing left. :( This might be my last post… can you see,  my PC is broke and urgently need a technician to repair it again. All I have is a n old laptop that my uncle gave it me last Christmas, version of Windows 98 (might be a laugh and annoyed but it really need help in running faster like turbo machine :D ).

    Xtanleeborx :(

    P.S

If you have an old laptop (not again with Windows 98) that you can donate please email me at code_eater@ymail.com or text me up 09065099661 :D I’ll be waiting and be happy your present :)

Democracy: Ninoy’s legacy for the Filipinos

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_dgu3YeGJruo/SRkFGsVUj0I/AAAAAAAAAF4/CSADnAw-pGc/s320/Ninoy-1.jpg… Ninoy was getting impatient in Boston, he felt isolated by the flow of events in the Philippines. In early 1983, Marcos was seriously ailing, the Philippine economy was just as rapidly declining, and insurgency was becoming a serious problem. Ninoy thought that by coming home he might be able to persuade Marcos to restore democracy and somehow revitalize the Liberal Party… The greatest president we never had…

    - Jovito Salonga, then heading the Liberal Party, said about Ninoy.

Today is the 26th death anniversary of the late senator Benigno S. Aquino Snr., After the death of Cory Aquino we’re now celebrating the undying democracy given by both Aquino couple. Both of them serve the Philippines with the truth and respect of the country. Because of them we are unleash with the tyranny of the Marcos regime who took several years reigning in the Philippines. This time, Ninoy Aquino is the Philippines hero because of his patrimotic desire to serve the Filipino and give the greatest legacy: Democracy.

Magkaisa (To Unite) is one of the famous songs during the People Power Revolution, performed by Virna Lisa. During the death of Aquino, it was used during the funal procession.

Maria Corazon “Cory” Cojuangco Aquino: The Woman Behind People Power

http://www.pcij.org/i-report/edsa20/cory-aquino-headshot.jpgI’ve been shock upon the hearing about the death of the late president of the Philippines, Corazon “Cory” Aquino. The housewife-turned-president died at the age of 76  on August 1, 2009, 3:18 a.m., at the Makati Medical Center. Aquino was diagnosed with the disease in March 2008 but kept up public appearances this year. A devout Catholic, she was a regular at weekend mass until shortly before being admitted to hospital in late June. Aquino was the first female president of the Republic of the Philippines to die up to date.

Our mother peacefully passed away at 3:18 a.m. (1918 GMT Friday) of cardio-respiratory arrest.

    - Senator Benigno Aquino III

All Roman Catholic dioceses had started requiem masses for Aquino, after they held “healing masses”. Meanwhile, the government declared a week of mourning for her death. Former President Estrada said that lost a “mother” and a “guiding voice of the people.” Aquino supported Estrada’s removal from office in 2001, but the two supported each other to oppose amendments in the constitution since last year. The Senate has also expressed its grieving with Aquino’s death; Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, who along with Fidel Ramos launched the People Power Revolution, asked the public to pray for her. Minority leader Aquilino Pimentel served as interior and local government secretary during her administration had “mixed feelings” with Aquino’s passing, saying “”We shall be forever indebted to Cory for rallying the nation behind the campaign to topple dictatorial rule and restore democracy.”

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Trailer

File:Hp6teaserposter.jpgHarry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is a 2009 fantasy-adventure film based on the novel of the same name by J. K. Rowling. It is the sixth film in the Harry Potter film series. It is directed by David Yates, the director of the fifth film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. David Heyman and David Barron produced the film,[5] and Steve Kloves, screenwriter of the first four films, returned as screenwriter for this film.[6] Filming began on 24 September 2007, and the film was released in cinemas worldwide on 15 July 2009, one day short of the fourth anniversary of the corresponding novel’s release. Unlike the previous film, the sixth film was not simultaneously released in regular cinemas and IMAX 3-D in all countries, due to a Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen several week commitment.[7] The film will instead be released in IMAX 3D on 29 July, two weeks after its original release, in these countries.[8]

The film opened to critical acclaim and commercial success, and broke the records for biggest midnight opening gross of all time as well as biggest single-day worldwide gross of all time. In five days the film went on to break the record for biggest five-day worldwide gross in history. The film is dedicated to the memory of actor Rob Knox, who portrays Marcus Belby in the film and was killed in May 2008
